Islamabad Smart City: Huawei to Collaborate with Pakistan

The Chinese company Huawei has stated that it would desire to work with the Pakistani government on the Islamabad Smart City project during a meeting with PM Shehbaz Sharif on Friday in Islamabad.

A delegation of Huawei Pakistan, led by its CEO Ethan Sun, made this proposal during a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad today.

The Prime Minister was enlightened that services such as traffic, health, education, parking, and others would be available through a digital platform as part of the Islamabad Smart City project.

Furthermore, Huawei recommended creating a National Data Center in accordance with Pakistan’s National Cloud Strategy. This program seeks to improve domestic cloud services, hence reducing foreign exchange costs.

Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister reported that his recent visit to Huawei’s headquarters proved to be highly beneficial. He stated that collaboration with Huawei in a number of areas, particularly the delivery of cutting-edge IT training to young people, is crucial.

PM stated that the country’s IT exports will improve as Huawei provides professional information technology training to 300,000 Pakistani students annually. He stated that the government will prioritize women and youngsters from Balochistan in this training program.

Capital Smart City In Islamabad

Shehbaz Sharif stated that in Pakistan’s digital economy, his government attaches a high priority on long-term collaboration with Huawei.

He believes that developing a strong foundation of talented people in the country will help to promote the digital economy. He stated that digitization of government institutions is essential for ensuring an automatic, contemporary, and efficient governing system.

The Prime Minister was also briefed on the creation of a Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) system for IT industry training, which would be implemented in partnership with provincial governments to improve digital skills throughout Pakistan.
